Ancient
Wisdom for Global Crisis
The Bhagavad Gita:
Love, Peace and Harmony in the 21st Century
A free public lecture by Dr. G. Lakshman
12-1:30 p.m. - July 6, 2007
Tucker Forum, Gannett Hall, Room 85
University of Missouri-Columbia
A physicist by training, Dr. Lakshman has spent decades
developing innovative solutions to environmental and resource-related
problems. In 1986, he established System Ecotechnologies Inc., an environmental
biotechnology company at Innovation Place, a prestigious research park
on the University of Saskatchewan campus. He recently participated in
a multi-faith forum on environmental sustainability and religion.
Dr. Lakshman believes the Bhagavad Gita, the ancient Hindu
text, has valuable lessons for today - both in resolving personal strife
and finding solutions to the "global crisis" of violence, bigotry
and socio-economic conflicts.
"The solution to the present-day crisis appears
to be in the rediscovery of human values, a shift from the current
emotion-based behavior to value-based conduct," he says. "The
Gita exhorts us to realize the oneness of the human spirit and bind
the humanity with love and understanding."
Dr. Lakshman will talk about how the lessons of the Bhagavad
Gita can strengthen the inner spirit, "guide us through the maze
of confusion" and help create a world of love, peace and harmony.
