What is the current model for conciliation among Christians and Christian
organizations, and how well does it work? Faith-based conflict resolution
is among the growing alternatives used by individuals and organizations
to resolve disputes that would otherwise resort to the civil courts.
Schlachter's talk will explore a biblically based model of dispute resolution
and discuss who uses this model, why it serves faith-based communities
better than alternatives, how it is effective and in what circumstances.
David D. Schlachter serves as the Vice
President of Conciliation and Church Support for Peacemaker Ministries.
He oversees delivery of mediation and arbitration services for
the resolution of conflicts and disputes, and the delivery of
conciliator training provided by Peacemaker Ministries. This
includes foundational training for conciliators and advanced
training through the Certification Program.
A Certified Christian Conciliator™ and University of Denver Law
School graduate, Schlachter practiced law for 26 years in Denver, Colo.,
specializing in business, real estate and commercial litigation, before
joining the Peacemaker Ministries staff. He has taught biblical peacemaking
in his church, for Peacemaker Ministries and internationally in Cambodia
and Tanzania. David has served as a mediator and arbitrator in numerous
cases through Peacemaker Ministries, and has served on numerous boards
of directors for other nonprofit organizations and ministries.
A short question-and-answer session will follow the lecture. This event
is free and open to the public.
