Join MU as we celebrate the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Wednesday January 27, 2010. Enjoy a light reception and then listen to the featured presentation “Engaging the Community: Closing the Achievement Gap” by Guest Speaker Patricia J. Williams. Williams writes the monthly “Diary of a Mad Law Professor” for the Nation magazine. Her wry, witty columns cover broad issues of social justice, including the rhetoric of the war on terror, race, ethnicity, gender, all aspects of civil rights law, bioethics and eugenics, forensic uses of DNA, and comparative issues of class and culture in the US, France, and Britain.
This event is free and open to the MU Campus and Columbia Community. The Reception is sponsored by the Friends of Peace Studies. The presentation is sponsored by the Chancellor’s Diversity Initiative, School of Law and Peace Studies Program.
