A new essay by Debra Mason, the executive director of the Center on Religion & the Professions, argues that online religion news faces unique challenges relative to other topics, but that startup niche websites have an opportunity to attack those challenges.
Mason’s essay, “Religion News and the Age of the Internet,” finds coverage of faith at an important moment.
“The elimination of a specialized religion beat at many media outlets presents great opportunities for every journalist,” she said. “Many meaningful, excellent faith and values stories are waiting to be told for the smart journalist who knows where to look.”
The book chapter appears in “Faith, Politics, and Press In Our Perilous Times,” published in 2010. Find more information at the University of Missouri’s website.
